Week Seven: Southeast Asia
Locations: Chiang Mai
Fav Foods: Green Curry with Roti + Tom Yum Goong + more Khoa Soi 😍
Enlightening, magical, and blissful. These three words sum up our week seven. 🌠
We arrived in Chiang Mai to explore the temples and the jungle without even realizing that Yee Peng, the famous festival of light, was only a week away. It's funny how the stars always align to put you exactly where you need to be. We decided to stay and take it slow so that we could soak in all the history and energy the city has to offer until the festivities, and we are beyond thankful we did!
The Festival of Lights was one of the most beautiful events we have ever witnessed. From the traditional dances, to the serene moments we stood watching the monks light hundreds of candles before sitting to meditate, to the moment time stood still as we made our wish and let go of what no longer serves us while sending our lanterns to the sky. This week has been filled with joy. I feel lighter just from being in the presence of these sacred moments.
The Lantern Festival was clearly the highlight of our week - and one of the top from the trip. Here are a few more special moments: • We got Thai massages, an interesting mix of deep massage and yoga. One of us loved it and the other not so much 😂 • We explored temples until our feet fell off, especially appreciating Wat Chedi Luang. • We sent a candle lit banana leaf boat adorned with flowers down the river to bless our marriage. • We drove into the mountains and spent the day at temples, overlooking the city, and sipping coffee above the trees.
It's bittersweet knowing this is our last week. We've had countless adventures and have been blessed in many ways along the way. I'm looking forward to snuggling my pup non stop, sitting in front of the fire, and drinking in all the goodness and sweet memories. However, I know I'll miss these days of our adventuring with my husband. One more week @aubs_brandon, let's make it a good one!!
